Perth-Busselton

We decided to cut short our house sit in Mandurah due to smelly dogs and a very cold house! (Don’t panic we did not leave the dogs alone, the owner got someone else to look after them). We headed back to Perth and spent the next few days having some really lovely family catch ups. We had dinner in Fremantle with my cousins Steve and Fran and Fran’s wife Caroline. We also saw Paddy’s brother Ant who had flown to Perth for work and we spent a day at our niece Sophie’s farm, along with her hubby Matt and our gorgeous great niece Maeve. Plenty of laughs and great conversations had at all these catch ups. It was good for the soul.

Unfortunately I also had another return to ED (my 6th visit in just over a month) as I was feeling quite unwell. The symptoms of the brain fluid leak had increased. This was a nightmare visit, where we waited 6 hours to be seen, then asked to wait another 3 hours until they could consult with the morning ear specialist team. I was given some iv meds and sent on our way at 7 a.m. in the morning. Both Paddy and I were utterly exhausted and agreed we can’t do another crazy ED again for a very long time.

We left Perth on 19th September, heading to Busselton to collect our great friend Fiona Walsh (from Melb). She had flown in to have a week’s holiday with us and the Welsford’s. Before heading to the caravan park we made a stop over at Vasse Virgin (to stock up on the best moisturiser ever produced!) and lunched at the Chocolate Factory. Of course we stocked up on plenty of chocolate too!

It wasn’t long before we got to have big hugs with the Welsford’s who we had not seen in over a year. We last travelled with them on the east coast. It was just so good to hug them and hear more about their travels. They left at the start of 2024 to give Conor a gap year and they are still going!

Our first week in Busselton included plenty of sunshine, exploring the magnificent beaches, wineries, watching footy finals, spending time with Earl and Heidi (friends of the Welsford’s from Perth), catching up with friends Marina and Matt (from SA), sunsets, bike riding, jetty walking, singing along to Paddy playing the guitar, campfires, whale watching, hair washing (Conor pretending to be Norman the hairdresser) and numerous competitive games of Five Crowns. Most of all our week together was full of belly laughs, hundreds of Conor cuddles and plenty of great conversation.

My health issues were put aside and I could not be more appreciative of the quality time we had together. My operation is scheduled for the 9th October which meant I did not have to interrupt this holiday time with our great friends. Even though I want the op over and done with, I was so grateful for the awesome week and our amazing friends.

What a fabulous time you have all enjoyed being back together again! I just spent the weekend with Fi, and she was raving about how wonderful her time was with you all. Jen, sending masses of love and support for you on the 9th and wishing you a speedy recovery. With Paddy by your side every step of the way it is very reassuring that you are in great medical (docs, hospital staff – not Paddy hehe) and loving hands. Please keep us posted as to how you are going. Much love always, Kel and Dave xx
