My little reset in Adelaide empowered my energy levels to go again on another week’s getaway with our beautiful friends Carole and Craig, this time to the Yorke Peninsula.
South Australia is so dry at the moment and especially on the Yorke Peninsula where they have had little to no rain since October last year. We headed to Arthurton, to the home/property of Carole’s cousin Boof and his wife Ali. We were joined by Gav and Jackie (friends from Nairne SA) for the weekend. Boof and Ali made us all feel very welcome. We based ourselves there for a week and made day trips along some of the west and east coast of the Yorke Peninsula. Really hot week with the temp most days in the 40’s.
We visited Wauraltee Beach for a long drive along the beach and a lovely swim. This beach is where many tourists come to camp on the beach. Unfortunately the local council has just put a stop to it and we missed our chance by 2 weeks. This is on the west coast of the Peninsula where the beaches are definitely nicer and worth a visit.
Boof took Carole, Craig and Paddy out in the boat to catch some crabs at Ardrossan. I gave it a miss as the water was too choppy and I get sea sick!! They caught 37 crabs all up and back at Boof’s place he showed us how to cook them. An interesting experience! I quickly established I am not a fan of eating crab! The rest of them loved it.
We toured down the east coast to check out Black Point & Port Vincent. Then across to the east coast (only about 45 min drive) for a swim at Balgowan, where I got stung by a jellyfish. Nothing a little hot water and vinegar couldn’t fix. Watched a dolphin playing in the water not far from us, which was pretty special. Night times were the best as we settled in for a few laughs & drinks with everyone. Boof loves his port and he kindly made sure Paddy tasted some (many) at the end of the night.
We left our van at Boof and Ali’s on Thursday 13th February and drove back to Nairne to prepare for our next adventure…..a trip to NZ with our family.
Just as we arrived back in the Adelaide Hills we had a phone call from BJ & Tracey inviting us all to watch a calf being born on their farm. We raced over there in time for all the action. I have to say this was an amazing experience and I am grateful I got to be there to see it.
